Week 8 Term 2 2025
A big thank you to the Parents and Friends volunteers that assisted at the Movie and PJ Night last Friday. It was a huge success with many children attending. From all accounts the children had a great time, which encourages us to make the Movie and PJ Night an annual event, with some slight tweaks to enhance the experience for all involved.
It is wonderful to see many of our Year 3-6 children enjoying the challenges of our new playground. We have been awaiting monkey bars to make a return to our school environment for a number of years now, children are already improving their stamina from the short time they have been busily practicing their swinging. I ask families to assist the school by ensuring your younger children continue using the original playground. They have something to look forward to when they begin Year 3.
Our courtyard renovation is beginning to take shape, the vision and hopes of the community is slowly becoming a reality. We anticipate that the space will be ready to use at the beginning of Term 3.
School Fees
A big thank you to all the families that are making regular payments towards their school fees. Congratulations to the families who have already completed paying 2025 school fees. We encourage all families to set up a regular Direct Debit for convenience.
Have you applied for School Card this year? St John Bosco School offers fee reduction to qualifying low-income families, by applying for the Department for Education’s School Card scheme. Under this practice, if a family has been assessed as eligible for School Card by the Department for Education, they become eligible to receive Lower Income Fees outlined above. Please note a new application is required for all families each school year. Applications for 2025 can be submitted online electronically, or via a hardcopy form completed and handed to the School Office. More information about the School Card scheme such as income limits, and cut off dates for applications can be found on their website:
School Uniform
As the cooler weather is upon us, please ensure that layers added for warmth are our school bottle green colour. Non uniform pieces are not to be worn as a top layer of clothing. Devon clothing have St John Bosco beanies to assist in keeping our heads warm during the winter months. These are also available for purchase at the front office.

Pentecost
On Wednesday 11th June, our school community came together to celebrate Pentecost with a whole-school Mass, led by 5/6DM. Pentecost, which occurs 50 days after Easter Sunday, marks the moment when the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples, filling them with courage and the gifts they needed to go out and share the Good News. This is a special opportunity for us as a school to reflect on the presence of the Holy Spirit in our own lives, and to pray for guidance, wisdom, and unity as we continue our journey of faith together. Thank you to the family members that joined us for a joyful celebration of faith and community.
House Day – A Celebration of Spirit and Support!
On Friday, 23rd May, our school community came together for a vibrant and meaningful celebration — our very first Whole-School House Day! This special event brought all year levels together to celebrate House spirit, build connections, and support a cause close to our hearts. This year, our House Captains led the way in choosing to support the Cancer Council, and the response from children, staff, and families was truly inspiring. The school grounds were a colourful sight as students proudly wore their House colours, showing off their team pride. Our daffodil cookies were a huge hit! These delicious treats not only satisfied sweet cravings but also helped raise $720 for cancer research and support services. Thank you to everyone who purchased a cookie — every bite made a difference. Throughout the day, children participated in a variety of House-based activities, beginning with a House Liturgy after Recess, then moving into games, challenges and creative tasks. It was a fantastic opportunity for children across year levels to collaborate, compete, and connect in a fun and supportive environment. A heartfelt thank you to our House Captains, children, and families for making this day such a success. Together, we celebrated what makes our school community so special — unity, compassion, and a whole lot of House pride!
Reconciliation Week
As part of National Reconciliation Week, our school community came together on Friday, 30th May to reflect on the importance of healing and unity between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians. The theme for this year was "Bridging Now To Next," highlighting the ongoing connection between past, present, and future. We were delighted to welcome families to join us for this special occasion, which began with a gathering at 2:30pm in front of our new mural. This meaningful artwork serves as a visual reminder of our commitment to reconciliation, respect, and connection to Country. Following this, we moved into the hall for a prayerful gathering at 2:30pm, led beautifully by 3/4R. Reconciliation Week was a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to building a better future.
Confirmation Preparation Begins at St John Bosco School
The Sacramental Program continues next week, with five children from St John Bosco School beginning their journey toward receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. Their three preparation sessions commenced on Tuesday, 10th June, marking a special and sacred step in their faith formation. These sessions will guide the children in deepening their understanding of the Holy Spirit, the gifts they will receive, and the commitment they are making as they continue to grow in their relationship with God. We ask our school community to keep these children and their families in your prayers during this important time. May the Holy Spirit guide and inspire them as they prepare to be fully initiated into the Catholic Church.

In Term 2, 3/4S have been deeply engaged in exploring symbols and significant events in Australian history as part of our Inquiry unit. The focus has been on developing an understanding of how certain events, people, and places have shaped our national identity. Through class discussions, research projects, and collaborative activities, students have investigated key celebrations and commemorations. We have explored the meaning behind national symbols like the Australian flag, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags, and the emblems of each state and territory. The children have reflected thoughtfully on what these symbols represent and why they are important to different communities across Australia. This inquiry has sparked curiosity and meaningful conversations about Australia’s diverse history and the shared values that connect us as a nation. It has also provided opportunities for the children to consider the perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and understand the ongoing journey towards reconciliation.
In Visual Arts, we’ve been diving into the world of Cubism, an influential art movement pioneered by artists like Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. The children have explored the unique characteristics of Cubism such as geometric shapes, fragmented forms, and multiple viewpoints and used these techniques to create their very own Cubist-inspired artworks. It has been exciting to see students experiment with colour, form, and abstraction to express themselves in new and creative ways. Their final pieces are bold, imaginative, and full of personality!

We are excited to host our annual Scholastic Book Fair from Friday 20th June to Wednesday 25th June.
We invite you and the children to visit the library between 8:25am - 8:40am and 3:00pm - 3:20pm on the days of the Fair to make your purchases. Payment options of Eftpos or Cash is available.
Please note, NO ONLINE ORDERS are available for the Book Fair.
Scholastic Book Club is offered once per term for St John Bosco School families. We are looking for two volunteers to help coordinate Book Club. This involves setting up the online platform for class groups at the start of the school year, dating and allocating catalogues to classes, online processing of orders and sorting and distributing books. Time commitment for this role is approximately 3-4 hrs per term.
If you are a registered school volunteer and are interested in helping out, please contact the school office.
This winter, our school is helping with the Vinnies Winter Appeal to support people who are doing it tough in the cold. You can help by bringing in warm clothes and blankets, non-perishable food like cans and pasta, and toiletries such as body wash, toothpaste, and shampoo. All donations will go to Vinnies to help people in need stay warm, clean and fed this winter. Every little bit makes a big difference. Let’s show how caring our school community can be!
Bins are located outside the OSHC room.
