Week 2 Term2 2022
Welcome to Term 2. I am pleased to say all children have settled into the term with enthusiasm and a willingness to engage in their learning. We warmly welcome the following children and their families to St John Bosco School ; Junior 1-2N, Gurasees 1-2R and Tendai 5-6L.
I hope all the mums had a lovely day with their families on Mother’s Day. Our children lovingly created a variety of special gifts for their special person. A big thank you to families for supporting the Parents and Friends Mother’s Day stall. I know my mum has already put her gift from the Mother’s Day Stall to use in her garden.
On Wednesday evening the Annual General Meeting was held. Reports were tabled outlining the 2021 school year. You can access the 2021 AGM Report at the following link: https://www.sjb.catholic.edu.au/__files/f/18005/2021_AGM_Report.pdf

This week our Year 3 and 5 children began their NAPLAN tests. NAPLAN is an annual assessment for all children in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. It tests the types of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. The tests cover reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy skills. NAPLAN is also a snapshot in time of your child’s progress. I encourage all parents to join our staff in reassuring your child that NAPLAN should be a time of celebration and not stress.
Tuesday morning at Playgroup was extremely busy, our House Captains; Aria, Jessica and Liam spent the morning assisting Carmelina our Playgroup Coordinator. It was lovely to observe our School Leaders interacting with the young children, I think I even caught them having fun playing shops! If you have children aged 0-5 years, come along and join us on a Tuesday morning between 9:00am and 10:30am.
On Friday 20th May 2022, St John Bosco School will take part in Walk Safely to School Day. Our children are encouraged to walk to school and come along for a healthy breakfast from 8:00am in the courtyard, a donation of $2.00 is welcomed. The day’s purpose is for us to consider our transport habits and try to incorporate more walking as part of a healthy, active way to get around. And although walking all the way to school isn’t realistic for many of us, it’s quite easy to figure out how you can build a walk into your family’s daily routine.
Regular exercise like walking with your child not only helps them (and you!) beat chronic problems like obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes. It also gives you a great opportunity to teach your child safe ways to behave around roads and traffic. Remember, Active Kids are Healthy Kids so get planning your own Walk Safely to School Day journey for Friday 20 May 2022! For more information, visit www.walk.com.au
Wishing you a lovely weekend

Welcome back to school!
During Holy Week, we listened to the stories about the death and resurrection of Jesus.
We gathered together as a school and remembered that Jesus rose to new life – the tomb where he was laid, was empty.
At the start of Term 2 we are celebrated Jesus’ life with a Prayerful Gathering remembering that Jesus is always with us in each day and in this beautiful world.
Easter is the most important time in the Liturgical calendar for Christians. It is the joyful celebration of Jesus’ resurrection and continues for the fifty days from Easter Sunday to Pentecost.
St Francis de Sales House Fundraiser.
This year at St John Bosco each of the House groups will work together to plan a fundraiser for a cause that they feel passionately about. The St Francis de Sales group met and decided that they would like to support Breast Cancer awareness. Next Thursday 19th of May we ask that our children wear pink clothes or accessories and bring a gold coin donation to raise awareness of and to support the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
