Week 6 Term 2 2024
Pupil Free Day Reminder / Staff Reflection Day
On Friday 7th June, the St John Bosco Staff will participate in a Staff Reflection Day at the Glenelg SLSC. This enriching experience will be led by Greg Hay, a retired Principal, with extensive knowledge and passion for the Salesian charism. Our staff will engage in various activities and discussions aimed at deepening their understanding and application of the Salesian charism in our daily school life. Beyond the individual reflection, the day will serve as an excellent opportunity for our staff to strengthen their bonds as a team.
Quiz Night
Thank you to those who have already supported our highly anticipated Quiz Night on Friday June 14th by purchasing a ticket. It is shaping up to be an unforgettable evening! Due to overwhelming demand, we have added three new tables to accommodate everyone who wants to join the fun. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our school community, we have a fantastic array of prizes that you could walk away with: Family Pass to The Gruffalo’s Child (Live Performance), Weber BBQ, Event Cinemas Tickets, Hamper from Intencity and a $250 Fugazzi Voucher. The night will be packed with exciting games and trivia that span various themes—not just the 70s! Feel free to dress up as little or as much as you’d like. We will have wine available for purchase, featuring unique labels with your childrens' class portraits. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our families and local businesses for their incredible donations. Your contributions are making this event possible. Please note that this is an adults-only event. It’s a great opportunity for parents and staff to unwind and connect in a relaxed, fun setting. We can’t wait to see you there!
Lost Property
Over the past few months, our Lost Property has become quite full of various items that have been misplaced by the children. To ensure these belongings find their way back to their rightful owners (or find new homes where they are needed) we will be placing a trestle in the Courtyard on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon next week (Week 7). We encourage you to visit our Lost Property during these times, to check if any items belong to your child. To prevent future loss, please ensure all your child’s belongings are clearly labelled with their name. After next week, any unclaimed items will be donated to homes where they are needed.
Line Marking
Please note that on Friday 7th June, line marking will take place on Marshall Terrace from 7:00am, just outside the new double gates. Be sure to keep an eye out for changes to the parking in this area.
Special Lunch – Thank You
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the P&F for organising Term 2’s Special Lunch from Asian Taste! Thank you to Danny for providing our children with a delightful array of delicious foods and to the P&F volunteers for ensuring the children received their orders. We look forward to Special Lunch in Term 3!

Pentecost Mass
On Wednesday 22nd May we gathered as a school community to celebrate Pentecost. Pentecost marks the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles, an event that is often considered the ‘birthday’ of the Church. The Pentecost Mass was wonderfully led by our Reception R class, in the St John Bosco Church. It reminded us of the importance of the Holy Spirit in guiding us, inspiring us, and bringing us together as one family. Thank you to the families and parishioners who joined in our celebration and to Fr Long Hai for leading the mass.
Sorry Day/Reconciliation Week Liturgy
On Monday 27th May, we gathered to acknowledge National Sorry Day and National Reconciliation Week. On the 26th of May, Australians stop to remember the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who were removed from their families and communities, which we now know as The Stolen Generations. We acknowledged the strength and resilience of the Stolen Generation Survivors and reflected on how we can all play a part in their healing process through reconciliation. The theme for this year was ‘Now More Than Ever’. This was a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will — and must— continue. National Reconciliation Week is a time dedicated to building positive, respectful relationships between all Australians and celebrating indigenous culture. Thank you to the children in 1/2C for leading our beautiful liturgy.
St Maria Mazzarello Fundraiser Day
On Wednesday 12th June we will celebrate St Maria Mazzarello Day, where we will come together to support the Cancer Council and raise awareness for a cause close to lots of people’s hearts. We ask that you wear Yellow to show your support and invite everyone to bring lots of coins on the day. Together, we will create a giant Cancer Council logo in the school courtyard. Every coin counts, and your contributions will make a significant impact! Delicious cookies will be on sale for $2.50 each during Recess and Lunch. All proceeds from the cookie sale will go directly to the Cancer Council, so indulge in a sweet treat while supporting a great cause. We look forward to a day filled with community spirit, generosity, and fun. Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school fundraisers.
St John Bosco 70th Anniversary Liturgy
We invite you to a very special event on Monday 17th June, as we celebrate the 70th anniversary of St John Bosco School. This milestone marks seven decades of educational excellence, community spirit, and unwavering commitment to our children’s growth and development. The celebration will begin with a liturgy in the school hall at 2:00pm. Following the liturgy, we will continue the celebration with cake and coffee. This will be a wonderful chance to mingle with fellow parents, staff, and children, share memories, and enjoy some delicious cake. We look forward to seeing you all there and sharing this joyous occasion with you.
Michael Mangan Concert
Well-known Catholic composer, performer and liturgist, Michael Mangan, will be visiting St John Bosco School on Friday 21st June, to present a whole-school concert from 9:20 - 10:30am. We look forward to singing along to our favourite songs and learning some new songs.
