Ms Bellifemini will be assisting the children and families slowly transitioning into school life in readiness for beginning Reception at the start of the 2024 school year. LLL Parent and Caregiver Survey
All Catholic Schools in South Australia are in the process of completing the CESA Living, Learning, Leading Perception Surveys. The surveys are a product of a collaboration between Catholic Education SA (CESA) and Curtin University and are focussed on examining the understanding of the vision and extent to which Catholic Education SA's Living Learning Leading Framework is taking place in schools as perceived by the children, families and staff. I encourage all families to take five minutes to complete the survey. You can access the survey here. I thank you in advance for completing the survey.
Parents and Friends
Some of our Parents and Friends members gathered early in the term to plan events for our community throughout Term 3. This term we have many volunteers who expressed their interest earlier in the year to assist with the School Disco, Special Lunch and Father’s Day Stall. For our Term 3 events to proceed the Parents and Friends committee rely on volunteers, please check your emails for correspondence if you volunteered for events.
Term 3 Special Lunch will be on Friday 18th August, please ensure you place your order on QKR by 4:00pm Wednesday 16th August. I look forward to enjoying my hotdog lovingly prepared by our Parents and Friends.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend

Walk a Mile – Friday 11th August
A sincere THANK YOU to the SJB community for your support in our Walk a Mile fundraiser. Your donations will help Hutt St Centre provide essential services to up to 7,000 people who will experience homelessness in South Australia this year. We're excited to say that so far we've raised $1614 to support Hutt St Centre. A friendly reminder that donations are still welcome, online or via the Front Office. If you are a registered volunteer with the school, we encourage you to join us on Friday 11th August for our Walkathon (9.00am-10.30am). Please see you child’s class teacher if you would like to assist/join us.
St Francis de Sales Fundraiser
The St Francis de Sales House Captains, Mia and Harriet were busy last term preparing the Pyjama Day fundraiser, which occurred on Wednesday of Week 10. The $249.00 raised went to Kickstart for Kids, who provide around 60,000 breakfasts and 10,000 lunches per week to South Australian Schools. Ian from Kickstart for Kids came to St John Bosco to accept a cheque from the children. Thank you to all who supported this great cause.
Sacraments
Eight children from St John Bosco are preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation. They are working with Fr Long Hai and members of the SJB Parish. In their first two preparation sessions, the children have discussed the purpose of Confirmation and how the Holy Spirit is their advocate and guide. Confirmation will take place on Wednesday 7th September in the St John Bosco Parish.
Semester 1 Student Voice
In Week 1 of Term 3, our Semester 1 Student Voice representatives had a special lunch to celebrate their leadership over Terms 1 & 2. Congratulations to all representatives and thank you for your service to the SJB community.
Little Boscos Graduation Liturgy
Sarah Graham, along with Nikki Hall, led a beautiful prayerful gathering at the end of Term 2, to celebrate the children who graduated from the Little Boscos transition program. During the liturgy, the children were presented with an SJB teddy and a special card containing seeds. Just like the children will grow and change during their time at SJB, so will the card if planted in their gardens at home. We welcome these children to our school community and wish them every success in their schooling.
Makers Empire/CESA Learning by Design Project
This week, two groups of Year 5/6 children attended the CESA/Makers Empire Learning by Design Project Showcase Day at Lot Fourteen, Adelaide. These groups were chosen after a whole-school voting process late in Term 2. This event was the culmination of two terms work in the CESA Learning by Design Project. It was an opportunity for students and teachers to share and celebrate their design thinking projects with an authentic audience. Throughout the day, the children engaged in deep dialogue about their projects and asked meaningful questions to children from other schools. Even better, the Handy Holder (Team 2) came out winners of the Peer Award! Congratulations to all children involved for their hard work and dedication in ensuring their booth was ready for judging! Here are some thoughts from the children:
- Everything was thought out so well, I loved it!
- For me, I liked meeting new people.
- It was all so fun, and we got to see other people’s designs.
- I loved the new opportunity! Everyone made me feel so welcomed!
The Year 5-6 Catholic School Choir
Term 2 has been a great success for our 5/6 Catholic Choir. Their hard work is paying off as they perfect vocal pitches, voice projection and choreography. Our song selection this year mainly pays respect to the many classic songs written for Disney films. One of our favourite songs we sing, is the ‘Mickey Mouse March’. It has been 100 years of Disney this year, yet children still sing classics that were written before they were born!
Recently our choir members gathered for a Catholic Choir rehearsal assessment at Nazareth College. The thrill of performing at a different venue added a sense of adventure to the day. The bus journey itself became a part of the experience. We surprised the bus driver with the choir’s favourite tunes ‘Do You Know the Way to San Jose’ by Dionne Warwick and ‘ABC/I Want You Back’ by The Jackson Five.
The atmosphere buzzed as we arrived at Nazareth College along with choirs from St Joseph’s, St. Michael’s, St Margaret Mary’s, St Francis and Immaculate Heart of Mary. A stand out for the day was when Kathlyn and Elle entered into the soloist auditions. I was very nervous for them as they got up in front of a packed auditorium with all but their voices and accompanying piano. They did very well but were bested by some tough competition. I was very proud of their determination, guts and bravery to perform solo. Many thanks to Mr Marks (Faith’s father) for volunteering on a successful trip.
It was the best experience, the singing sounded amazing – Mia
Being in choir is the best experience – Kathlyn & Ivy
Go Choir – Jah
During Choir I have learnt to sing and dance in unison – Elle
Choir rocks and it’s fun - Allegra
It was really fun – Joanna & Miguel
Having one of the best teachers, all of us had such a spectacular experience!
Singing in front of people was nerve racking – Japnoor
The hub assessment was very fun and super enjoyable – Charlotte
Dear parents, guardians and carers,
Re: Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
- year of schooling
- category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
- level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.
This information assists schools to:
- formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
- consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
- develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).
Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).
If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact me.
